KUANTAN  PORT AUTHORITY

 

HISTORY

Kuantan Port Authority was established on 1 September 1974 under the Port Authorities Act, 1963 and is a Federal Statutory Body and is placed under the purview of Ministry of Transport. 

The construction of Kuantan Port started in 1976 and was completed by end 1979. Partial operation started in 1980 while full operation started in 1984. 

The operation of Kuantan Port was privatized to Kuantan Port Consortium Sdn Bhd (374383-H) (A local private limited company) effective on 1 January 1998 and Kuantan Port Authority is now the regulatory Authority. 

LOCATION

Kuantan Port is located at Tanjung Gelang (Latitude 3o58'N, Longitude 103o 26'E) some 25 kilometres north of the fast growing municipality of Kuantan in the State of Pahang. It is an all weather deep-sea port constructed by the Malaysian Government to provide port facilities to serve the eastern states of Peninsular Malaysia.
