PHILIPPINE PORTS AND SHIPPING 2002

Manila, 3-4 July 2002

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) commissioned the Transport Events Management Sdn Bhd of Malaysia to organize the Philippine Ports and Shipping 2002.  A high profile event, the two-day Conference and Exhibit took place at the Shangri-La Hotel in Manila, Philippines on 3-4 July 2002.  Hosted by PPA itself, the event was endorsed by the Department of Transportation and Communications of the host country, and supported by principal sponsors Association of International Shipping Lines (AISL), International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), Asian Terminals, Inc. (ATI) and WG&A, Inc.

Philippine Ports and Shipping 2002 was aimed at promoting and highlighting Philippine ports, in time with the announcement by PPA that 4 on-going and 64 new port projects are being fast tracked in the Southern Philippines.  These projects are believed to help spur economic growth and at the same time as a preparatory move to revitalize bilateral agreements under Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).  Towards the attainment of the objective and the success of the event, Transport Events Management Sdn Berhad tapped local resource persons and invited foreign speakers from the United Kingdom, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Switzerland, Singapore and Australia for the 2-day Conference.

Over 200 senior executive and decision-makers attended the Conference coming from the world’s leading regional shippers, shipping lines, freight forwarders, logistics, port authorities, terminal operating companies, railway operating companies, haulage companies, container terminal equipment and services suppliers operating throughout Asia and Australia/New Zealand.
