PORTS AND SHIPPING 2002

The
Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) commissioned the Transport Events Management
Sdn Bhd of Malaysia to organize the Philippine Ports and Shipping 2002.
A high profile event, the two-day Conference and Exhibit took place at
the Shangri-La Hotel in Manila, Philippines on 3-4 July 2002.
Hosted by PPA itself, the event was endorsed by the Department of
Transportation and Communications of the host country, and supported by
principal sponsors Association of International Shipping Lines (AISL),
International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), Asian Terminals, Inc.
(ATI) and WG&A, Inc.
Philippine
Ports and Shipping 2002 was aimed at promoting and highlighting Philippine
ports, in time with the announcement by PPA that 4 on-going and 64 new port
projects are being fast tracked in the Southern Philippines.
These projects are believed to help spur economic growth and at the same
time as a preparatory move to revitalize bilateral agreements under
Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).
Towards the attainment of the objective and the success of the event,
Transport Events Management Sdn Berhad tapped local resource persons and invited
foreign speakers from the United Kingdom, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia,
Switzerland, Singapore and Australia for the 2-day Conference.
Over
200 senior executive and decision-makers attended the Conference coming from the
world’s leading regional shippers, shipping lines, freight forwarders,
logistics, port authorities, terminal operating companies, railway operating companies, haulage companies, container terminal
equipment and services suppliers operating throughout Asia and Australia/New
Zealand.
Concurrently taking place with the two-day conference
was an exhibition of sixteen leading international shipping lines, ports,
container terminal equipment and services suppliers.
PPA
General Manager Alfonso G. Cusi graced the occasion with his welcome address and
Secretary Pantaleon D. Alvarez of the Department of Transportation and
Communications delivered the keynote address.
